The Embassy of Azerbaijan to the Czech Republic, the Center for Caspian Studies, Terma Travel are pleased to announce the First Photo-Contest for Intercultural Exchange, which will be held among journalism students of the Masaryk University in Brno, the Charles University in Prague and the Palacky University in Olomouc.
People of Azerbaijan have always encouraged its youth to build a strong foundation towards the promotion of intercultural exchange, religious and cultural tolerance and harmonious co-existence amongst the diverse groups of its population.
In this regard, Azerbaijan believes that the Intercultural Photography Contest under the theme “Portrait of foreign national minorities in Czech Republic” will help to advance cultural exchange between the Azerbaijan Republic and the Czech Republic as means to communicate intercultural dialogue between the two countries.
Criteria for submission
A panel of Czech and foreign experts – professional photographers, media scholars and journalists as well as His Excellency Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the Czech Republic Tahir Taghizadeh will consider, adjudge, and cast their votes for a winner. Successful entries will show creativity and photography techniques based on the contest’s theme of “Portrait of foreign national minorities in Czech Republic”. Photographers could depict, for example: • People of different nationalities interacting in their daily lives in harmony within the hosting society • Activities related to different national minorities attended by everyone, regardless of their nationality or faith • Religious and/or cultural sites located in areas where the minority enjoys their rights to practice their culture and/or religion freely
Please note that these examples are tentative guidelines and photographers are encouraged to feely interpret the theme so that the contest receives the widest possible range of photographers.
Please note: submitted photographs should not display nudity or graphic violence.
Submission Specifications
Photographs must be submitted in JPEG format with a resolution of at least 300 DPI, size “8”x “10” with high quality to the official contest’s email

by midnight of November 11th 2010. The organizers will ensure standard high-quality photo printing equipment is used to create prints for the judging committee, but please note that the organizers cannot be held responsible if the final print does not match the contestant’s expectations.
Submission Conditions
The Intercultural Photography Contest organizers will invite each nominee to submit only one entry ( only one photograph) via the official email

• Photographs must not have been featured or printed in previous publications, promotional materials or websites • Entries must be submitted with the permission of the photographer • By submitting an entry, participant agrees to the condition that any image submitted for the contest may be used by the organizer for promotional purposes, including but not limited to: photo exhibition related to this contest, publications, websites, documents, presentations and videos. Photographer retains copyright and all photographs used will bear name of the author. • Please note that participants must ensure prior to participation at the contest that they will be able to travel and remain in Azerbaijan during 1-10 August 2010 in the event that they are selected as the winner.
Awards
The winner of the contest will receive financial prize of 15,000 CZK and a travel to Azerbaijan. There he/she will visit religious and cultural sites, meet with representatives of different cultures, faiths and nationalities residing in Azerbaijan. The photographs taken during the trips will be displayed in Brno, Olomouc and Prague universities, on the www.infoaz.eu website as well as in printed outlets of Azerbaijan.
International airfare will be provided by the Center of Caspian Studies, domestic accommodation and meals will be provided to the winner by Terma Travel tour operator.
